The response to the tragic events of this week has served as a poignant reminder of the power of community and mutual aid. The ACU would like to highlight the exemplary efforts by the Ukrainian and Ukrainian American communities in supporting the people of Los Angeles in their time of need.
We are immensely proud of Ukrainian American organizations that united for “Borsch for LA.” Organized by entrepreneur and activist Peter Larr @larrrrrrr , this event brought together @shieldoffreedom, @swufoundation, @goukraina, @houseofukraine, @easybusymeals and countless individuals to distribute free Ukrainian food to the people of Los Angeles.
Lastly, we are deeply humbled by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement that Ukraine is prepared to send 150 firefighters to Los Angeles to help combat the ongoing fires.
In an announcement on X, President Zelensky wrote:
“Today, I instructed Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs and our diplomats to prepare for the possible participation of our rescuers in combating the wildfires in California. The situation there is extremely difficult, and Ukrainians can help Americans save lives. This is currently being coordinated, and we have offered our assistance to the American side through the relevant channels. 150 of our firefighters are already prepared.”
We are reaffirmed in our belief that the United States and Ukraine are strongest when we support one another as allies. We extend our deepest gratitude to those who continue to risk their lives to combat the wildfires, and our hearts go out to all who have been impacted.
