We invite you to join us for an intimate evening with Ostap Slyvynskyi, a Ukrainian poet, essayist translator, and the recipient of many literary awards, namely the Bohdan Ihor Antonych Prize, the Hubert Burda Prize for young poets from Eastern Europe and the Kovaliv Foundation Prize. In 2022, he was elected the Vice President of PEN Ukraine.
Ostap Slyvynskyi authored five books of poetry: “Sacrifice of Big Fish”, “The Midday Line”, “Ball in Darkness”, “Adam”, “The Winter King”, as well as “The Dictionary of War”, a documentary book based on a testimony of participants and witnesses of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. His books have been published in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Macedonia and the US. He is also known for translating the works by Derek Walcott, William Carlos Williams, Charles Simic, Czesław Miłosz, Olga Tokarczuk, Georgi Gospodinov, and many others.
At the event at the House of Ukraine, Ostap Slyvynskyi will read his works in Ukrainian and English.
This meeting with Ostap Slyvynskyi is part of the “Verses from the War” series of fall readings with Ukrainian writers.
