Congress faces a critical vote in the coming weeks on supplemental aid for Ukraine. We got comfortable criticizing how America is not giving Ukraine military aid fast enough and in the quantities we want. But this month Ukraine may lose all of the aid for the next year, so it’s important for us to go to the streets and share the message that continuing helping Ukraine is vital for American National Security. If Ukraine loses, American troops will be fighting russians in one of the NATO countries. It’s easier to continue giving Ukrainians what’s needed to defeat this enemy.
We hear lots of flawed arguments on the hill. But let’s be honest, the United States is not alone in supporting Ukraine—in fact, 19 other countries have committed a greater percentage of their GDP to help than the US has. Aid for Ukraine has some of the strictest oversight and accountability mechanisms in the history of the US aid, which assures this aid isn’t wasted. Giving Ukraine the tools it needs to finish the fight is the right thing to do to ensure that more Russian atrocities are stopped. Moreover, of the $67 billion spent on military aid to Ukraine, 100% of that is for weapons produced in the United States — this represents a serious investment in domestic manufacturing and American jobs. This supplemental funding gives Ukraine the tools it needs to liberate the Ukrainian people suffering under occupation, and it is designed to also address other key issues in the US such as disaster funding.
This legislation is critical and must pass. Please attend this rally to remind Americans that the war is not over and that everyone needs to be contacting their Congressman and asking them to vote “yes” on supplemental funding for Ukraine.
