This Saturday on New Year’s Eve at 5 pm we will remind Americans and foreign Balboa Park visitors that Ukraine courageously defends its independence, despite constant rocket attacks and frequent lack of light, communication, water and heat. We will remind them that millions in Ukraine will be celebrating New Year’s without electricity. We will do it visually through a dimmed holiday tree by our statue where we have gathered for past 10 months of this war.
Since the beginning of the war tens of thousands have been killed, hundreds of thousands injured, 30-40% of the country’s infrastructure destroyed and millions forced out of their homes. The enemy has been systematically destroying energy infrastructure all over the country, hoping to intimidate the Ukrainian population, force the Ukrainian government into submission and retaliation and to cause another wave of refugee migration to Western Europe.
Many are fatigued by the war, however, this is the largest war in Europe since World War II, that came with genocide against Ukrainian population, multitude of war crimes and utterly destruction of the infrastructure of the country. On the global scale Ukraine plays an important role and we need to keep reminding the public about it. Our weekly rally is to raise awareness and remind society that the war in Ukraine is not over! Please, join us to Stand With Ukraine this weekend for a short 1 hour rally from 5 till 6 pm. Bring umbrellas (IKEA has blue and yellow ones) because it will probably will be raining.
