The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, in the steppe zone near the former shore of the Kakhovsky Reservoir in the Zaporizhzhia Region, near the city of Energodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and the third largest in the world in terms of total capacity.
On March 4, 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the nuclear and thermal power plants were captured by Russian troops during the battles for Energodar.
On June 25, 2023, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that 4 power units of Zaporizhzhya NPP, as well as the station’s cooler, are mined, and Russian troops have already approved the detonation plan.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, confirmed the fact of mining on the territory of the station and beyond. Blowing up the Zaporizhzhya NPP could lead to the biggest man-made disaster of all time.
We are calling you all to come to the emergency rally to the I-5 overpass on Nobel Dr. at 5:30 pm today.
