This year’s San Diego Pysanka Festival will feature exciting Pysanka Lightning Labs. Reserve your spot in this fast-paced workshop, where instructor Olenka Kleban will provide a 15-minute primer on how to make a pysanka, followed by one hour of guided pysanka writing.

This express session will feature two dye colors only – red and black, classic colors found in many traditional Ukrainian crafts. Participants will go home with at least one completed pysanka.

All materials are included. Tools and supplies will also be available for purchase at festival vendor tables.

Lightning Labs will be offered twice during the festival:

Olenka Kleban is a pysankar (pysanka artist) born and raised in Hamilton, Canada, now residing in San Diego. As is customary for children in the Ukrainian diaspora, Olenka learned how to make pysanky from a very early age. In her teenage years she took to making pysanky prolifically, which honed her ability to hand-draw geometric designs on the egg and acquaint herself with traditional and regional patterns. Before moving to California, Olenka taught dozens of pysanka workshops per year in and around Toronto as part of Kosa Kolektiv, a Canadian folk arts group.
